Instructions
In this lesson, we will practice putting all that we’ve learned together. When reading a hmong word, I want you to follow this order. After a while, you will be able to do it very fast and won’t have to think about the actual order anymore.
- Find the consonant and the vowel.
- Step 1: Say the sound of the consonant
- Step 2: Say the sound of the vowel
- Step 3: Say the combined sound of the consonant and the vowel.
- Step 4: Next, say the combined sound of the consonant and the vowel
- Step 5: then say “cim ___.”
- Step 6: Finally, say the sound of the final word with the combined sounds of the consonant, vowel, and vowel pitch modifier.
- Example:
- pob: p + o = po; po + cim b = pob (ball)
- Using the steps
- pob: (1) p + (2) o = (3) po; (4) po + (5) cim b = (6) pob (ball)
- The digital flashcards will use this ordering system.
- If a word doesn’t have consonant or vowel pitch modifier or both, then stop at the step in the order and that is the word.
